Nice work! Your picture frame seems to be taken from an image elsewhere though, so watch that ;) Might wanna paint it yourself next time. If I'm wrong, I'm sorry. BUT I'M NEVER WRONG. That was a lie. I'm wrong a lot. Anyhow, your colors work great together, I love the fiery ethereal background. I'd recommend working with shadows and shading in the darker areas of the character, his face confused me slightly, I think because the orange facial hair stands out a bit too much, when the facial features themselves (nose, mouth etc) seem more undefined. Your composition is great, lighting is good and the piece is very pleasing to look at. Thanks for sharing :)

Thank you very much ^^!
You're not wrong about being right about the frame 'x)
I'll make my own frame next time. The review is much appreciated!

Haha nice, I like the quirky humor of this peice. Your colors are strong as well. I'd recommend practicing your line work and trying to keep the image framed more evenly when its got a bit of a scene happening, overall a good start! Thanks for sharing :)

brynimation responds:

Thanks Jazza! Yeah, my line work is pretty lame at the moment and my sense of size and frame is terrible. So thank you Jazza. You have made my day!
Bryn (The stupid kid)

Simple and cute, I like it. The environment could use some work, so I can see what kind of room he's in or something, and perhaps add a dimension of cell shading to the central figure, but overall his proportions and structure are well put together! Good job, thanks for sharing :)

You need to keep uploading art here, because I want to scout you for the art portal but you need at least 4 artworks. Seriously though, you've got a great style and natural sense of how to make an environment look 'large', by using colors of the atmosphere and channeling focus in the right areas with use of your blurry outside areas of the image and great lighting. I'm a little biased towards great environmental images simply because I'm not very good at them (I'm more character-focused in general). This is very well done and there's not much I can offer to improve it; for what you tried to pul off, you did with flying colors. Thanks for sharing, adding this one to my favorites.

YakovlevArt responds:

Haha!
I was wondering why I wasn't getting scouted yet, thanks for the heads up, I'll be sure to upload more. Also Maybe some character and figure stuff just for you =]
Thanks for the kind words friend!

Great work! How much photoshop painting have you done? Because if you're new to this you're doing very well! I can tell you took a lot of reference from the painting tutorial I did, even to the point of using a similar character look, applying rim-lighting, and clipping masks. You've done a great job! Next assignment: Try a full body character in a dramatic pose! get into the spirit of challenging yourself and trying new things. You might not be 100% happy with the results at first but over time you'll be glad you did!

Pounz responds:

Thanks Jazza :)

It's the first time I try this kind of painting indeed (it's not easy to begin when you don't have a good tutorial, so I had to wait for yours :p)

I'm on it as soon as I get time.

Great. Thanks. I didn't even want to sleep any more. This is disturbing and I love it haha. The way you did her cell-shading is well done, and the dark satirical tone of the piece is well pulled off, though her proportions could use some work, and perhaps some practice with your linework and the overall silhouette to achieve more of a look of solidity. Keep up the good work and thanks for sharing!

mohawkade responds:

Thanks, though I purposefully kept the proportions off to better match the wonky proportions in the original Goya painting.

First reaction to this was a chuckle. Second was the thought that it seemed to be an anti-obama poster. Don't ask why. Maybe its that ear? lol. Your shading here is impeccable, and the minimal use of color work very well. The brain could look a bit more brain-ey though, think of a brain as more of interlocking squishy sausages or something, its gotta feel more tanjible and segmented. Also the chin looks a little too bulbus for my taste but aside from those minor gripes you've done a great job! Keep it up and thanks for sharing!

Thanks for the review Jazza! Even though this wasn't featured on the Youtube showcase, I appreciate your time to leave a review. Thanks again and keep up the good work.

First thing I did when I saw this was chuckle out loud. That's a very good thing, considering when I sit down to review artworks I feel often separated from what I'm looking at in an effort to be unbiased and constructive. I love what you've done here! Seriously, a lot. Your shading and the way the objects interact with each other and the environment make the piece feel very tanjible, and the best part by far is how vivid the expressions are and how clearly the picture communicates its quirky tale. Short, simple, funny and creative. The ash tray edge looks a little too angled though, i feel the angle shouldn't be as steep, as to better accommodate the more landscape-esque view of the 'battlefield'. A great piece here that I enjoyed. Adding to my favorites, great job and thanks for sharing!

You character work and understanding of object shape and accentuation is very well pulled off. When I first saw the image that was my first thought. My second thought was "so... what's actually happening here?", which after reading your description I felt free to not try and read into it too much hehe. As a 'random' illustration this is very appealing to look at and interesting to the eye, good job. Overall I like your style and would like to see what you can do with an artwork with a more cohesive setting or visual narrative. I like your linework and use of color too. Keep it up and thanks for sharing!
