Awesome pic, but the face seems to lack alot of feminine features, prob the bushy eyebrows make it a lil awkward. Otherwise rly cool art =)

Oct. 12, 2007 | 10:59 PM Coaly says:

Her right arm is so long, I don't think she should be able to touch her knee without bending....and I can't help but comment on her head being larger than her waist...but that's just stylization I guess. Awesome details and shading though.

...and the belt buckle isn't a real belt buckle...

(ok I'll stop...)

"I...I...being the authority on artwork, I couldn't help but notice that..." SHUT UP

Love your art Jazz. Keep it up.

AGAIN, SHUT UP

I like how ya did the torso. You really understand muscle structor.
But the right arm does seem a little too long. Still awesome drawin' though.
If ya practice drawin' women more. Try makin' the brows and nose smaller. The chins already perfect. (Women have a small facial structor... but you probablt already knew that.)
Don't be afriad to be a lil' perverted and draw some big boobs too man. :P

Awesome

It's been lots of fun watching your artistic development over time. Have you ever thought of steering in the direction of a webcomic book? That sword is also wicked, and seems aptly suited to this chick - it's tall and slender, matching its owner like a pet.

p.s. I just got done watching the bonus tracks on your Paladin DVD. The only good animator is an eccentric animator. Believe ol' Swain about that :D

You do have a very distinctive drawing style JAZZA.

Take a look at your whistle.

I like it allot, anyway... whats with all the people picking out faults?

Probably makes them feel better about themselves xD

Awesome work, keep it up!

Oct. 13, 2007 | 6:11 AM KupaMan says:

That's pretty nice. I think you draw girls better than guys (judging by this picture versus some other stuff I've seen).

My only qualm is that the lower end of her thumb/palm overlaps the handle of the sword. Realistically, it would push against it, but not lay on top of it as shown here.

Oct. 13, 2007 | 6:18 AM KupaMan says:

Sorry for the quick second post.

"...and the belt buckle isn't a real belt buckle..."

How is it not? Strap goes through the buckle, metal hook goes through the belt hole, snugs itself against the buckle. Have you never used a belt before?

very nice looks like an anti hero, very good shadeing, detailed clothing and weapons, only thing is for a warrior she looks to skinny, add some muscle.

also it is one of the best images ive seen done in flash, noticed you used the brush tool to for varying line thickness NICE.

Thats hawt.

Oct. 28, 2007 | 7:51 PM notorious says:

that's a nice pic. But that's not what i'm here to talk about.

You as an animator should know the difference between helpful criticism and unhelpful criticism. When i post constructive criticism on The Swain's blog that is thourough and long, thought out and not offensive in the least, and you just tell me to 'shut up', that's just a huge slap in the face right there.

I give him some criticism. Well, how else is he going to improve? I worded it as nicely as possible. Nevertheless, seeing as i must have been the only one there not going 'GREAT WORK MICHAEL, KEEP IT UP!' but actually had something of importance to say, i get an angry PM and am told to 'shut up' by a well known animator.

Please don't be an uptight prick.

Oct. 29, 2007 | 7:00 PM JAZZA responds:

first off, i didnt read the whole review which WAS rude of me i admit, but i didnt mean to when all i saw was stuff being said like

"The blockhead series was a fantastic idea to start out with, but with every episode it seems he just generally does the same thing",

"dialogue is so similar, that after a few episodes it gets bland and even a bit annoying",

"I guess you're kind of stuck because you always have to have blockhead in their as the main character and his repetitous words and actions are kind of played out"

so i guess i was grumpy from crap that goes on in real life and venting or whatever, but as an artist we always tend to get criticism, a lot of it, buy people who couldnt draw a stick figure, and dont want to try. rather then explaining that it takes LOTS of work to get in the limelight like swain has, and that the blockhead character is what got him there and now that its a NG MASCOT it cant change much at all, i just said shutup.

note, it wasnt in an angry tone, but in more of a... well, more of a communication to swain to ignore pleas to change the main character which people have grown to love.

2 more things:
i didnt PM you at all, so i dont know what thats about

aaand, i hardly think im a well known animator, im a try hard. but i admire everything people do who have made it into the big leagues. for the most part the paladin series was ignored except for a few people who liked it.

Oct. 28, 2007 | 7:54 PM notorious says:

P.S. Your 'Paladin' series has poor scripting. It is well animated and the drawings are nice, but i think you could get a better script writer. Also, the characters don't always blend together with the background. You could minimize your use of gradients a bit, too. I do like the character design however.

OOO DISS I JUST GAVE YOU SOME CONSTRUCTIVE CRITICISM WHATCHA GONNA DO NOW

Oct. 29, 2007 | 7:02 PM JAZZA responds:

mature in one word, lol

trust me, i know i suck at scripting, so that nothing new. plus, half the reviews told me that anyhow. well thanx for that update after ages of the series being finished. glad i know you liked it...?

....
so youve vented.
truce? lol!

Oct. 28, 2007 | 11:47 PM suffocatingaddict says:

dude this is awesome, better on what i could ever do in the mere future.lol :)

Oct. 29, 2007 | 12:09 AM SACP says:

Out of curiosity, do you use a mouse or a tablet to draw in flash?

Oct. 29, 2007 | 7:02 PM JAZZA responds:

tablet :)

Oct. 29, 2007 | 9:33 PM Anigen says:

That picture is very detailed. Although the face and some of the major limbs are over-masculine, the anatomy, coloring and all looks really nice.

But like in Notorious' case, I'm not here to suck your dick.

And you shouldn't be sucking The Swain's either. Blockhead is a series with pretty art and generally nice visuals, but even Swain knows it's not perfect. In fact, Swain sees more imperfections with it than anyone else ON Newgrounds. It is likely that he is the biggest Blockhead hater of all, as he has to sit and look at the same character for hours upon days. Days upon weeks. Weeks upon months. And so on.

That being said, there is always room for improvement, and this can only be achieved by constructive criticism. From my viewpoint, this was Notorious' only intent; to help Blockhead change and differ. Now, although some of the things he said were extremely obvious things that Swain tries his hardest to change up and make better (eg redrawing the conscience), it was still in good intent and WAS considered constructive.

What I'm trying to get across is this: First of all, you didn't even fucking read what Notorious said. You completely ignored him and jumped to Swain's defense, without even seeing all sides to his argument. Then, you blamed your biased word on having a bad week.

Aside from that, your argument makes no sense. Swain didn't make Blockhead to get in the limelight; He got massive inspiration, around the third episode, when Firth favorited his work, and when he realized that he was getting on the right track with the series (which I might add, was originally just intended to be practice), he continued on the track to where he is now.

My last point is that when you become popular, you get a SHITLOAD of criticism. And this does not simply apply to Swain, and it does not simply apply to Newgrounds Authors. In fact, it doesn't simply apply to animators at all. It goes beyond the Beetles, who were rejected by a record company, who told them that guitar was going out the window. It goes beyond congressmen, who are occasionally hated by the people due to the laws they pass. It even extends as far as God, who people blame for bringing about a lot of things that they hate.

As long as you create in this world, and as long as you're not the only man across the globe, you will always be attacked and even hated for what you spent hours upon hours building. As animators, we have the choice to suck it up and deal with it, or cave under the pressure.

Oct. 30, 2007 | 2:09 AM JAZZA responds:

yeah i agree. and i have been given a lot of crap as well as good and i do have to take both. we all still learn. aaaand yes, please not that if i was the jerk you both seem to think me to be i would delete all ur comments. anyhow, i see your point.
(plus i admitted not reading it all was stupid)
interesting how this all come from 'shutup'
lol...

i'll be good...

Oct. 29, 2007 | 11:07 PM Coolio-Niato says:

Jazza, don't worry. Notorious is a pretty immature kid, he picks fights with anyone. Just ignore him next time =)

Can't wait to see more updates on the game. =D
